ACT Cyberknights Emerge as 3rd VAAA Basketball Season Title Favorites

With the absence of basketball teams from the CeSAFI, the ACT Cyberknights basketball team emerges as the title favorites for the 3rd Visayas Amateur Athletic Association(VAAA) Basketball season. The ACT Cybrknights, however, will be challenged by Bohol basketball powerhouse BIT-IC Cruisers, Dumaguete teams FU Greyhounds and ACSAT Lightnings as well as Leyte champions AMA Computer Institute Titans of Ormoc.

ACT will be missing some of its key players from last year. Forward Jemar Dela Peña left for the USJ-R Jaguars while shooting guard Jessie Paraguya has reportedly transferred to FEU. The Cyberknights 3rd VAAA Basketball season campaign will be hinged on the performances of holdovers Elmer Aparice, Prospeto Batiancila, Carl Valencia, Dondon Nuñez and Joel Vistal. Also expected to fill in the gap left by Paraguya and Dela Peña are Cyril "Bibbo" Pontemayor, Mark Cadiz and Roland Doy.

ACT Cyberknights Jessie Paraguya Reportedly Transfers to FEU

It looks like the ACT Cyberknights basketball team will again lose a key piece of their team as sniper Jessie Paraguya have reportedly transferred to the FEU Tamaraws, a basketball powerhouse in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. Earlier this year, the ACT Cyberknights also lost forward Jemar Dela Peña who transferred to the USJ-R Jaguars in time for the 8th CeSAFI basketball season.

Tall Order For Cyberknights in VAAA Semifinals

The Asian College of Technology Cyberknights face the tall order of beating a vastly improved and much bigger Southwestern University Cobras in the semifinal match-up of the 2nd Visayas Amateur Athletic Association.

The Leon Kilat-based Cyberknights will have their hands full trying to contain Cleford Maguate, Richard Gianchand and Alfred Belande in the paint while also trying to stop outside gunners Elvid Polegrates, Eric Zanoria and Chris Litorja.

ACT main men Elmer Aparice, Joel Vistal, Roland Doy, Prospeto Batiancila and Roland Doy cannot afford to have an off knight against the Cobras. The Cyberknights must offset SWU's size advantage with a run-and-gun game and relentless denial defense.

ACT Should Be Competitive Should They Join CeSAFI

There is no word yet whether the Asian College of Technology Cyberknights will be joining the 8th CeSAFI Season or not. But should they join the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated basketball wars, they would probably not be a cellar-dweller. Although ACT is also vertically-challenged, they make up for lack of height with their roughshod full-court trapping and relentless denial defense while capitalizing on fast breaks on the offensive end. Their 6'2 center Elmer Aparice plays bigger and will not back down against bigger guys. He is ably supported by the slashing and power plays of forward Joel Vistal and the outside sniping of their backcourt featuring Dondon Nuñez and Roland Doy.
